Who needs to submit the application?

You must submit your visa application in person. You cannot submit it through an agent, friend or family member.

From 11 October 2007 every applicant aged 5 or over will need to have his/her fingerprints scanned and all applicants of whatever age will have to have their photograph taken.. Under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult when giving their biometrics, this cannot be a member of the VAC staff. Biometrics cannot be taken visa applicants under the age of 16 who are unaccompanied and this will delay the processing of your visa application as a visa application can only be processed after your biometrics have been taken.

Passport/Visa Collection

Processed applications can be collected from the UK Visa Application Centre where the application was originally submitted. Applicants may collect the passport in person or may assign a travel agent, tour operator, friend or relative to collect it on their behalf. Applicants collecting their passport in person must present the copy of their passport bio-page at the collection counter (this bio-page will have been stamped by the Visa Application Centre when the application was made). Agents and other persons collecting passports on behalf of an applicant must present the stamped bio-page and a letter of authorization signed by the applicant. Alternatively you may choose to have your passport and original documents delivered via Courier service. Please speak to our staff when you make your application.

Processing Time

Most straightforward, non-settlement individual applications are processed within 1 week of receipt by the Visa Section of the British Embassy. If an interview or further documents are required the processing time will vary according to the next available interview slot and/or how long it takes to carry out additional checks or receive additional documentation. We therefore recommend that you apply at least six weeks before your intended date of travel. Please do not purchase your travel tickets until the issue of your visa has been confirmed.

Interview with an Entry Clearance Officer

Issue or refusal of a visa is based on the assessment of your application by an Entry Clearance Officer at the British Embassy. The Entry Clearance Officer may decide to interview you if they need more information before making a decision on your application. An interview time and date will be given by the UK Visa Application Centre. All interviews will be conducted at the British Embassy, Seoul.
