  • When to apply

You can apply for a student visa 3 months in advance and a minimum 3 weeks before of your course start date. For all other visa types, you can apply 3 months in advance of your intended date of travel to the UK. Applicants should not make their travel arrangements to enter the UK until they have received their visa.

You can complete the visa application process in 5 steps

  • How to apply

Step 1. Complete your visa application form in one of the following 2 ways.

    Online visa application form
Complete an online visa application in English at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk
    - Please ensure that you complete all the sections correctly.
    - Sections 1 and 2 are vital to considering your application. The information in this section must be completed accurately.
    - Please print all the pages of the visa application form and bring it to the visa application centre.
    - Please make sure the bar code appears on the final page of your printed visa application form and remember to sign it
    Paper visa application form
Download an appropriate application form from the UK Border Agency website
Complete the application form in English and sign it. Ensure that you complete all the sections correctly. If you make a mistake in filling in any of the sections you will need to make the change on the form and sign against it.

Step 2. Schedule an appointment at the visa application centre

Schedule an appointment at the visa application centre by clicking on the 'schedule an appointment' link on this website and follow the instructions. You must make an appointment to appear in person so you can submit your visa application form, supporting documents and biometric data. Children over 5 years-of-age and adults need to make an appointment. Children under 5 should submit a visa application to travel to the UK but they do not need to attend the visa application centre or submit their biometric data.

Note: If you are part of a family or group, each member of the family or group must make an individual appointment. For example, if you are a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 children, you must make 4 individual appointments.

Step 3. Prepare your documents and visit the visa application centre

You must submit your visa application in person at the visa application centre. You cannot submit it through an agent, friend or family member.

Children aged 5 or over and adults will need to submit their biometrics. This includes a digital fingerscan and photograph. Applicants under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult when giving their biometrics; this cannot be a member of the visa application centre staff. Biometrics cannot be taken for visa applicants under the age of 16 who are unaccompanied. A visa application can only be processed after your biometrics have been taken.

You must submit all your supporting documents with an English translation. Any translated Korean documents need to be submitted with the original Korean document for verification. Please submit the original documents with photocopies. If you submit the original documents without photocopies, the original copies will not be returned to you.

You will need to bring the following documents

Supporting documents relevant to the category you are applying for with copy of each original document. Please see the document checklist page on this website for more information about what documents to submit with your application
The correct visa fee payable in Korean Won (cash) only
Bring 1 recent passport-sized (45mm high x 35mm wide) colour photograph of yourself. The photograph should be:

    - Taken against a light grey or cream background. It should be in sharp focus, clear and of good quality, free from shadows.
    - Printed on normal photographic paper.
    - Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons. The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
    - The photograph should be a recent true likeness and taken within the last 6 months.

    Marriage certificate for a spouse
It is mandatory for all spouses accompanying the main applicant to the UK to submit a certificate of marriage along with your application.

    Original bankbooks and bank statements
You are advised to submit the original bankbook when submitting the bank statements. You should submit the originals along with photocopies.

Step 4. Wait for a decision on your visa application

Please wait for a decision on your visa application. You can refer to the 'guide to processing times' page on this website for information on our processing times. You can use this information as a guide to our recent performance, although it cannot be used as a guarantee of your individual visa application processing time. Visa applications are assessed individually and processing times may vary.

    Step 5. Collect your visa

You can collect your visa from the visa application centre. Collection is from: 08:00-13:30 (Monday-Friday)

Applicants may collect their passport in person or may ask a travel agent, tour operator, friend or relative to collect it on their behalf. Applicants collecting their passport in person must present the copy of their passport bio-page at the collection counter (this bio-page will have been stamped at the visa application centre when your application was made). Agents and other persons collecting passports on behalf of an applicant must present the stamped bio-page and a letter of authorisation signed by the applicant. Pease note that without an authority letter and acknowledgement receipt we will not be able to hand over the envelope to the representative or agent.

Alternatively you may choose to have your passport and original documents delivered using the courier service. Please speak to VFS staff at the visa application when you make your application.

  • Interview with a visa officer

Issue or refusal of a visa is based on the assessment of your application by an UK Border Agency visa officer. The visa officer may decide to interview you if they need more information before making a decision on your application. An interview time and date will be given to you by VFS visa application centre staff. All interviews will be conducted at the UK Border Agency at the British Embassy, Seoul.

  • Diplomats

All diplomats must make their application at the VFS visa application centre.
